Will my room be really dark?

There are two parts to this answer really: When the louvres are open The basic rule of thumb is, the wider the louvre, the more light your shutters will allow in when they are open. There will be a slight reduction of light but roughly speaking, much less than if you had net curtains at the window. When the louvres are closed While your shutters will vastly reduce the light levels when closed, they are not blackout. You can expect to reduce light levels by something over 80% with standard louvres BUT our flat URBAN louvre increases this to over 95%, Wondeful for night workers, an afternoon nap or those with high light sensitivity If it's important to you to have your room really dark, for example, so that people working nights can sleep more easily during the day, then we have a blackout shutter frame and blackout blind options available.

Why should I choose plantation shutters instead of curtains or blinds?

Here are ten good reasons to choose shutters for your window dressings

Stylish with a tradiitional contemporary touch
Plantation shutters are a stylish, contemporary and timeless window dressing solution.

Perfect solution for unusual shaped windows
Our shutters are made to measure perfectly whatever the shape of the window. Whether your window is square, rectangular or something more unusual like a triangle or porthole, shutters can be tailored to exactly fit the size and shape of your window.

Extremely durable and long lasting
Plantation shutters are extremely durable and long lasting, they are made of high quality hardwood or uPVC and are fixed in place like doors. They are very resilient and unlikely to break or to suffer from wear and tear. They last longer than blinds and are easier to clean.

Provide privacy and light control
Shutter blinds are incredibly versatile and provide privacy and light control that curtains and blinds simply cannot match. Depending on the louvre size you choose, you can have full privacy while allowing a generous amount of light to come in, particularly if you choose our split close option.

Improve your homes energy efficiency
Because shutters are custom made to fit the window, there are less gaps for cold air to get into the room or for heat to get out. They can help improve energy performance and reduce heating bills.

Reduce external noise levels
Shutters can help reduce the amount of external noise in the room.

Help prevent damage to furniture and carpets
Your shutters can be set to be partially open which deflects incoming sunlight, this helps to reduce the impact of the sun on fabrics, furniture and carpets.

Act as a deterrent to burglars
Standard hardwood interior shutters can help with security as they make it difficult to see into your home from outside and help to deter burglars.

We have a range of aluminium security plantation shutters available which are lockable and offer very high security levels with panache and style.

Add extra value and kerb appeal
Window shutters may add to the value of a home and make it more desireable to buyers, they also improve the look of your house from both the inside and out.

Shutters are perfect for children’s rooms, there are no cords on shutters which makes them very safe.

I'm worried about the colour changing

Our shutters are finished using a water based paint that is kinder to the environmentt that other paints. It is enhanced with a UV protector and this protects your shutters from any noticeable yellowing, fading or colour change over the life of your shutters.
